IABMCP Conference Schedule

Below you will find a list of upcoming conferences to be held in various locations throughout the world. These conferences deal with a wide variety of important topics relating to behavioral medicine, counseling, psychotherapy, chemical dependency counseling, and coaching. In most cases the basic information is provided including the name of the conference, the geographical location and the date(s). Additional information can usually be obtained by visiting the sponsor’s website. This list of conferences is, of course, far from exhaustive. There are so many interesting programs that are scheduled every month at locations throughout the world that it is virtually impossible to keep track of them all.

Additional reference sources for possible programs of interest can be found in the Links Section. In particular, at the end of the links section there are a number of general reference sources that can be quite helpful.

Please be advised that all conferences and related information are subject to change without notice and should be confirmed by interested individuals. The Academy has no control over the content of any of these conferences and assumes no responsibility or liability for any of these conferences.

Any suggestions of conferences to add to this list would be appreciated and should be e-mailed to Info@IABMCP.org.

Becoming a Certified QuitSmart Leader

QuitSmart is a highly effective stop smoking program that combines decision - firming techniques, cognitive-behavioral coping skills training, hypnosis via CD, optional use of OTC and prescription medications, and a realistic patented cigarette substitute. In a study of five U.S. Air Force Bases, 66% of QuitSmart participants remained smoke free at a six-month follow-up, compared to 16-30% of those in four other stop smoking programs (Shipley, et al., Federal Practitioner).

The QuitSmart program was developed by Robert Shipley, Ph.D. director of the Duke University Medical Center Stop Smoking Clinic. Dr. Shipley has trained over 2000 Certified QuitSmart Leaders and now offers an affordable home-study option for health professionals that involves watching 4.5 hours of video from a recent live QuitSmart seminar, studying the QuitSmart Client Kit (Guidebook, Hypnosis CD, and Cigarette Substitute), reviewing the QuitSmart Leader Manual, and talking with Dr. Shipley by phone.

Many practitioners find the QuitSmart Program to be an extremely valuable addition to their professional practices. Certified QuitSmart Leaders may offer the program to individual tobacco users or to groups of tobacco users.

Program discounts are available to Academy Diplomates/Members who wish to become certified QuitSmart Leaders.

Please email The Academy at info@IABMCP.org for additional information.

IMPORTANT NOTE
MEMBER SAVINGS/CONFERENCE UPDATES

Many of the entities listed in the Member Savings Section offer a wide variety of educational and training programs on a regular basis. Since it is very difficult to keep this conference schedule totally updated given all the programs that are being offered at locations throughout the world, it is strongly recommended that individuals interested in specific educational programs visit the websites of program providers in the Member Savings section on a regular basis. In the case of most entities listed in the Member Savings section, there is a description of the types of programs that they offer and their website address so that interested individuals can access additional information including the dates, content and locations of upcoming programs.

Relevant information may also be found by visiting On-Site Training Programs. The Academy can sometimes assist in developing and delivering on-site training programs individualized to best fulfill the educational needs of specific audiences. Some of the possible programs that are available are described in the On-Site Training Programs section.

Academy members having difficulty finding conferences/educational programs that fulfill their particular needs and requirements are invited to e-mail The Academy at info@IABMCP.org with a description of the kind of programs for which they are looking. The Academy will be happy to do some research and see if we can recommend any relevant programs.
